Ed Ruane demonstrates the "Clear Paint Method" "I was looking for a lightweight method of doing paint jobs that would look like colored tissue, without those annoying dark overlap area's at the seams... Then I saw the ideal solution while visiting my friend Dave Merrithew in NY, so this method is based on what I learned from him" "Prep the plane with 3 light coats of clear, just up to the "fuzzy
stage". Then shoot the color/thinner mixture. The trick is 1 Oz of color to
10 Oz thinner. Dave uses India Inks, but I have had similar success with just
using colored dope. You get plenty of color on the paper covering, without all
the weight, and get the added benefit of the semi opaque old time look. Try it,
you'll like it!!" Some photo's of Ed's creations using this method: 1) BiSlob 2)Ed's Zilch-X 3) The Pair top view, plenty bright! |
